Kyung Lahさんのお仕事はなんでしょうか？
I am an international news correspondent.
My role is covering Japan and the region.
It’s where I live, it’s the air that I breathe, it’s the people who
I meet, it is the culture I immerse myself in. So that I am as well
educated as possible, so that the world gets an accurate picture
of Japan. The prism with which CNN views Japan is through me.
So it’s a big responsibility because I want people to understand Japan
on an intimate level and to see this country beyond just the way we look.
There is a stereotype per country. Here in Japan, all they’re known
for is TVs and cameras. We don’t want to tell stories that are so simple.
We want to push beyond that and so that’s the reason why I’m here.
I have a lot more independence being here. I can be sort of calling my
own shots. I can come up with much more of my own stories and I
really appreciate that.

「私の担当は日本と近隣地域です。ここで暮らし、空気を吸い、人々と出会い、
文化に浸っています。それは世界に日本を正確に伝えられるよう、できるだけ
日本のことを知るためです。
CNNの日本の見方は、私の眼鏡を通します。だから大きな責任です。
みなさんには、日本を見た目だけではなく、身近な存在として理解してもらい
たいと思っています。
それぞれの国に固定概念があります。日本は「テレビやカメラ」。
そんなに単純な伝え方ではいけません。それを超えたいからこそ、私はここに
います。日本にいると、より主体性を持てます。
ある程度、自分で色々決められます。自分が提案したネタも、より発信できる
ので、嬉しいです。」
